How to Choose Between Basement Waterproofing Companies

If you’ve experienced a flooded basement or have a wet basement, you may want to look at options. It is smart. Water intrusion problems can be solved by professional basement waterproofing. Is it better for your home? Is it the exterior or interior basement? We are a basement waterproofing company. Most homes in the Mid-Atlantic region will have a wet basement within a decade after being built without a professionally installed interior water pressure relief system concrete leveling.

There are different types of system.

Exterior Basement Waterproofing

It makes sense to include basement waterproofing in your budget if you are building a new home. It is easy to waterproof the basement during the construction phase. The builder will usually give a two-year foundation seepage warranty on a new home, but this is known as “damp-proofing”.

An exterior system can be installed around an existing home, but it involves tearing up the landscaping and possibly the patio. It is necessary to dig around your home’s foundation in order to place an exterior footer drain next to your footings in order to get some light on your property. This is not always the case. A waterproof coating is put on the wall to prevent seepage. This is expensive.

An exterior French drain can cause water to back up into your basement, which defeats the purpose of the drain. The water builds up next to the home because machinery, vegetation, rodents, and other things fowl up the flow of the drainage.

Interior Basement Waterproofing

The more cost-effective and long-term solution for existing homes is interior basement waterproofing. Even if your older home has some sort of system, it may not hold up to the heavy rains we are getting because of the advances in technology.

The footer drain is still around the interior perimeter. The concrete floor around the exterior walls needs to be removed. New concrete is poured after the drain system is installed.

The French drain system is next to the footers, below the floor, and inside the home away from mother nature. You may have holes drilled into the walls to keep the water out. hydrostatic pressure is pushed up underneath your slab during extreme precipitation. There is no way to manage this under the water pressure of the home.

The drainage system will connect to your basement’s sump pumps, which will pump water out of the basement before it gets damaged. If the power goes out, you should get a battery backup pump to make sure you are protected.

Choosing Between Basement Waterproofing Companies

In the Mid-Atlantic area, the soil and water tables are very different. How do you choose between companies?

There are a lot of things you can do to find the right company.

  • Ask who they used and who they didn’t.
  • Check their rating with the Better Business Bureau if you read reviews on websites.
  • A company that has been in business for 10 years is a good one.
  • Make sure the company is licensed and insured.

Check their service capabilities and understand their warranty. During a major rain event, do they even own their own trucks, building, warehouse, personnel, or both?

Once you have narrowed it down to 2 or 3 companies, have them come out to give you a quote, and then decide which company offers the best price, financing, and service. A lowball price is not always a good thing. You want to be sure that you are working with a company that can service your customer base and stand behind their warranty.
